Bars an Restaurants is at the heart of the Kenya’s culture, society and communities. As the lead trade body for the industry, we represent every corner of the sector. Member focused and community driven, we’re the collective voice campaigning for positive change: for people, for businesses, and for the future of hospitality. Representing hundreds of members across Kenya, we lobby government, influence policy, shape debate and empower an environment for bars and restaurants to thrive.

2003

BIRTH OF PERAK KENYA

17TH OCTOBER 2004

Our Beginning

Registered in 2004 with an objective of bringing investors and operators together in order to sole common problem and assist its members comply with various regulations governing the hospitality sector.

23TH January 2005

Our First 50 Customers

We received our first 50 clients by providing many valuable educational opportunities, community events and legislative representation.

THE ROUND TABLE MEETINGS

2st march 1987

The presidential round table

Perak was part of the presidential round table in 2015 to articulate issues affecting our sector and basically to apprise the president’s office of our existence as an Association.

Issues raised were;

Govenor Hon Evans Kidero

Perak was part of the Nairobi Governor Hon Kidero roundtable team to discuss issues affecting industry players in September 2015.

Issues raised and discussed were;

  • Many licenses under the County Government.
  • As an industry we require a check list to seal loop holes that the public health depart creates to deny us liquor licenses and extort us money.
  • Constant harassment by county government officials causing business disruption.
  • Constant increase of licenses fees without exhaustive stake holder consultation.
  • Use of the police to make arrests

REGULATIONS AND THE LAW

28TH February 2016

Kenya Copyright Board

In the months of January /February 2016 we have been engaging KECOBO (Kenya Copyright board) the body that regulates the three music collecting societies MCSK/KAMP/PRSK. They requested us to come up with a team to engage our members in formulating rates that would suit our sector. KECOBO CEO promised to revert to us by Friday the 18th March before the tariffs are gazette. We will be paying only one invoice instead of the three currently. It has been concluded that we will be paying to a certain percentage of our single business permit to the three bodies.

28TH january 2016

Ministry of tourism, trade and cooperatives

We have been requested by Min Tourism, Trade and cooperative Ms. Anna Othoro to hold stakeholders forum to get views on their plan to consolidate our sector 7 licenses to be consolidated into one. The same is happening in the months of March in the various sub counties in Nairobi.
